What is SAP NetWeaver?

SAP NetWeaver is a platform for management of applications developed by SAP and the technical basis for many enterprise applications from SAP. SAP NetWeaver encompasses a wide range of technologies related to various areas such as data management, mobility, analytics, application development, and integration. It was originally designed as a development platform for developing SAP-based applications. Since then, it has been expanded and now offers a wide range of functions that support companies in building a flexible and scalable IT infrastructure, linking different systems and thereby creating a unified ecosystem.

SAP NetWeaver used a proprietary database format (SAP HANA) . It is a relational database that provides a range of functionality beyond the tools available in the SAP environment. In addition, a service-oriented architecture (SOA) is used, which makes it possible to integrate both customer-specific developments and running applications.

The SAP NetWeaver Application Server is part of SAP NetWeaver. It provides the basis for most SAP products. It is divided into ABAP and Jakarta EE application servers and can be installed individually or together. In an integrated installation, the Java stack uses the user management of the ABAP stack and communication links are automatically created between the stacks, called the Java Connector (JCo).
