What is SAP R/3?
SAP R/3 system is an early version of SAP Enterprise Resource Planning Systems (SAP ERP) , which was introduced in 1992 and has evolved over the years into one of the leading ERP systems. The "R" in the product name stands for "Real-time data processing" and the "3" for the three-stage structure of the system consisting of database, application server and user interface. It had a simple user interface and could be integrated with various systems and applications. Until December 2003, the SAP software was marketed under the name SAP R/3 and finally in 2004 by SAP ECC ( ERP Central Component) superseded.
SAP R/3 was modular and consisted of a number of different components that performed different functions. The most important components of SAP R/3 include the application software, the database, the user interface and the technical infrastructure. The application software includes applications for finance , Purchasing , logistics , production and distribution . The user interface allows users to access the database and operate the applications.
The many of the individual SAP R/3 modules focus on different aspects of business operations. This included processing financial transactions, generating reports, and managing suppliers and customers. In addition, SAP R/3 extends a number of applications that help companies run their business processes, such as production planning, budgeting, and inventory management.
SAP R/3 offered extensive functions for the integration of different systems, such as ERP and CRM systems. It also supports various database systems, such as Oracle and Microsoft SQL Server.
